OnePlus Teases Calendar Image for January 15, 2019: Could this be Launch Date for OnePlus 6T or 7?

We have been hearing a lot about OnePlus 6T lately, and that’s fine, as OnePlus is expected to reveal the new phone in October. OnePlus usually launches the ‘T’ version of its flagship phone in October. However, the company is now teasing a calendar date for January 15, 2019.

If OnePlus follows its usual release cycle, then that should put the OnePlus 6T release date somewhere in October. The Chinese company refreshes its smartphones every 6 months. As the OnePlus 6 was released in May 2018, the OnePlus 6T should come out in October. So, what’s this new January 15 date for?

Oneplus posted a new image on Chinese microblogging site Weibo, that showed the calendar app on a OnePlus 6, with the a date marked as a reminder. This is the Chinese variant of the OnePlus 6 though, so perhaps it has something to do with a new product launch or an announcement. It’s a long way to go until then.

OnePlus 6T: Launch Date

As per the reports, and going by the previous launch dates for ‘T’ versions from OnePlus, we expect the OnePlus 6T to arrive in October. There haven’t been any confirmations yet, but there have been several rumours that suggest that OnePlus would indeed release a T variant in October.

The January 15 date then, could be for some sort of announcement about another product. The image also highlights a time for the day, 3:00 – 4:00. Once again, we aren’t sure what this means. The translation for the post reads ‘For their new semester set a goal, January 15, 2019 we see the outcome’. It is possible that OnePlus has set a goal for sales in the 4th quarter of 2018, and they would announce the results on this date? We can’t be sure of anything as of now.

The date doesn’t seem like an ideal OnePlus product launch date, as the company hasn’t really unveiled any phone in January. If we look at past OnePlus product launches, most of them have taken place in May and October. A report had also confirmed that OnePlus would be bringing the new 6T to T-Mobile in the United States, and that it would be launched in October at $550 price.

It could, however, be possible that OnePlus is changing its product release cycle. Perhaps it could skip the OnePlus 6T altogether, and launch the OnePlus 7 in the beginning of the year. We will have to wait till October to find out if there will be a OnePlus 6T.

OnePlus 6T: Rumored Specifications

The OnePlus 6T will be a small hardware upgrade over the OnePlus 6, but we are expecting some design changes. Several rumours and reports have pointed out, that OnePlus could use the new waterdrop notch design from the Oppo F7 Pro. That’s entirely possible, and it would be a great move by the company.

OnePlus could also include wireless charging on the OnePlus 6T, and improve the camera hardware. Apart from that, we expect other internals to remain the same. You can expect the phone to come with the Snapdragon 845 chipset, up to 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage. The phone could feature a triple-camera setup, as seen on the Oppo R17 Pro. That would be a significant upgrade over the OnePlus 6.

Apart from that, you can also expect OnePlus to release the new phone with the latest Android 9.0 Pie software on board. The company is already testing the software on the OnePlus 6, so it is very likely that the new phone would be released with the new OS on board. We still have another month to go, before we know anything for sure.
