[Exclusive] Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) Images, Specs Leaked Ahead of Company’s September 12 Launch Event

The Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) will most probably bring thinner bezels around the screen, making it more compact. It might also feature a TrueDepth camera setup at the front to make way for an iPad without a fingerprint reader. It might also be the first iPad without a 3.5mm headphone jack.

After proudly bringing you the first images and video renders of the upcoming 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch iphones models that will be launching this month, we are thrilled to bring you the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) CAD-based image and video renders. Apple is expected to launch this massive tablet with the smaller 10.5-inch variant during this month’s keynote, and these images show a lot of differences between the upcoming tablets and what we were used to seeing from the company. If not for our source @OnLeaks, we would have never been able to present you with the latest renders.
We’ve been told that these might not be 100% accurate, but there are some really interesting things that we can observe in the renders, and it would be really hard for someone to just imagine and fake them. Let’s have a look at the renders of the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) then!

iPad Pro 12.9 (2018): 5K Renders, Specs Leak, First Look

Right off the bat, the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) looks immensely different than its predecessor. If you’ll notice, there is no home button and that is thanks to the smaller bezels. However, these bezels are a lot bigger than the iPhone X’s bezels, which is why the latter needed a notch at the top to house all the internal components. With the large iPad Pro model, using a notch is not going to be necessary as the bezels themselves are hiding those crucial components.
The lack of a home button means that the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) will feature a TrueDepth camera, getting Face ID in return to unlock the tablet. These renders also show that there is a charging port smack at the bottom middle, but there is no 3.5mm headphone jack. There are four speaker grills at each corner of the slate, with a power button placed at the right-hand corner. The upcoming tablet from Apple might roughly measure 280.6×215×5.85mm (7.77mm including the rear camera bump).
The volume buttons are present on the right-hand side of the iPad Pro, but there is a strange button-like artefact present on the same side, and even @OnLeaks could not figure out what it was. The Smart Connector has been relocated and it is found right above the charging port. When you are mounting your iPad Pro on a Smart Keyboard Cover, it looks as if buyers will need to place it vertically, and the reason for that might be because the tablet cannot get unlocked via Face ID while in landscape mode.

According to rumours, Face ID is not going to work with the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) model if it is placed in landscape mode, so Apple might have been forced to change the position of the Smart Connector. Other details that have been identified are the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 series-like antenna strips, with two microphones on the top edge.

iPad Pro 12.9 (2018): Expected Specifications, Features
Apple is said to introduce the 12.9-inch and 10.5-inch versions of its iPad Pro family. Though none of them is going to feature an OLED screen, they will be equipped with True Tone IPS LCD panels that will support a variable refresh rate, just like the Razer Phone. Long story short, everything is going to appear much smoother than your normal smartphones’ UI.
While Apple has not defined the official name of the chipset that will be powering the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018), the A12X might be the name of the upcoming SoC. According to numerous rumours, the A12X is going to be made using TSMC’s 7nm FinFET technology and will comprise up of an octa-core processor to deliver outstanding levels of performance and will cater to the needs of regular customers as well as creative professionals. Apple could keep the RAM maintained at 4GB on both models, but could sell different storage variants up to 512GB for a premium. Of course, Apple Pencil support is going to be retained, but we cannot say the same thing about the 3.5mm headphone jack, sadly.
The slimmer bezels mean the iPad Pro will be smaller in size as compared to its predecessor, even though they will fetch the same display size when measured diagonally. There is also a uniform bezel that surrounds the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018). The biggest feature coming to the iPad Pro series will be that TrueDepth camera, which will arm the tablet with Face ID. Now that the home button is out of the picture, Face ID is going to be the only biometrics solution present in this iPad to unlock it with unprecedented ease.

iPad Pro 12.9 (2018): Launch Date, Pricing Details

Apple is expected to launch its iPad Pro series at its annual September keynote, which is going to be held on the 12th of this month. Following the conclusion of the launch, Apple will start to take orders for these large-screen tablets, and only then shall we hear about a launch taking place in India. Thanks to their improved design and numerous features added, we expect the base model of the iPad Pro, which in this case would be the 10.5-inch one to cost Rs. 54,999, and will come with 64GB of onboard memory. The iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) might cost Rs. 64,999 for the base model.
